koplight™ Cordless Lighted Retractor

LED illumination for deep surgical cavities

The koplight™ cordless surgical retractor emits light using a battery-operated LED. Created in the home of modern white LED technology, the koplight™ LED is optimized for peak efficiency in surgery, giving surgeons clearer sight lines and less hand fatigue. It’s a modern surgical device designed with uncompromising Japanese technology and craftsmanship.

While the high-quality LED module is reusable, the sterile single-use blade can be easily exchanged to suit a wide range of surgical needs. This optically designed transparent blade transmits consistent and shadowless lighting to deep surgical fields.

This lightweight and very bright (40,000+ lux) in-cavity lighting helps surgeons work with greater precision and efficiency. It’s maneuverable and versatile in breast surgery, plastic surgery and more (see below).

Why “koplight”?

kō means “retractor” in Japanese
+
plastic + light

The koplight retractor lights your way, with optically designed dispersion of high-intensity lighting, and a flexible, user-oriented, modular system.

The power of light for surgery

Bright for operative fields

With reference to IEC 60601-2-41,1 koplight™ emits 40,000 to 160,000 lux illumination2 from the light emission points for surgeons to direct light on and into target areas.

Transparency lights your way

High-end Japanese LED gives sufficient lighting while the transparent blade's optically engineered design diffuses consistent, shadowless light where needed and with minimal glare.

Powered for surgery

The koplight™ can be loaded with large-capacity NiMH batteries to provide lighting you can rely on for common surgical procedures.

A standard by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). “Medical electrical equipment – Part 2-41: Particular requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of surgical luminaires and luminaires for diagnosis”

2 Reference value only/varies by blade configuration. The illuminance measurement method differs from that of IEC 60601-2-41, as the conditions differ from traditional overhead surgical lamps.

Light up your surgery

Lightweight, maneuverable, built with safety in mind

Cordless, lightweight, ergonomic design

The koplight™ light retractor weighs just 100–150 g1; 2–3x lighter than typical metal retractors. This reduces hand fatigue while the ergonomic design allows the maneuverability that surgeons need.

Reliably supports bodily tissue

The transparent blade is virtually unbreakable under normal operating conditions, as it is made of polycarbonate, a material used in bulletproof glass (see test videos for more information).

Electrosurgery-compatible

The koplight™ is made of plastic and nonconductive anodized aluminum. This reduces the chances of complications associated with electrosurgery, such as burns caused by electric scalpels.

1Including 2 AAA batteries. Weight varies by blade configuration.

User-oriented, functional, modular design

Cost-effective reusable LED lighting

Equipped with high-performance Japan-made LED, the koplight™ LED handle is reusable for up to 3 years.1 This user-friendly setup can reduce material costs without compromising lighting quality.

Blades sterilized conveniently

koplight™ blades are provided sterilized and single-use2 giving doctors both convenience and a way to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Versatility for your surgical procedures

Eight sizes of screw-on koplight™ blades are available to meet a broad array of surgical needs. The blades are switchable, even during surgical procedures.

1Cleaning and sterilization procedures must follow the Instructions for Use.
2Blade may be provided as reusable for some countries/areas.

Satisfied users...

"I had no tools to light within the body cavity during breast augmentation, pockets, and quadrantectomy. The LED lighting provided by the koplight™ solved this. Maneuverability is also a plus, and being cordless, it places no burden on the patient."
Dr. Maria Grazia Pieraccini
Breast Surgeon, Misericordia Hospital in Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy
"I use the koplight™ in breast reconstruction and in many other major surgeries. It's lightweight and easy to use. Since it has no cord, the koplight™ provides an outstanding level of convenience."
Dr. Tomoyuki Yano
FACS, Department Director, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital of JFCR, Japan
I use the koplight™ during radial artery harvesting for coronary artery bypass surgery. It helps in visualizing grafts when there's small access. The LED lighting helps me visualize the graft's course and its harvesting through a minimally invasive approach."
Dr. Tiziano Torre
Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Cardiocentro Ticino, Switzerland
"The koplight™ replaced previous less-adequate devices, including the Snowden-Pencer retractor. It lets me do more procedures in one morning. It’s especially useful in breast prosthesis reconstruction. Being cordless means no burden is placed on the patient, and the LED lighting is another benefit."
Dr. Domenico Gerbasi
Breast Oncologist, ASST Bergamo Est, Bergamo, Italy
